Call for Abstracts:
AGU 2025 Macro-Energy Systems Session

In the ‘off years’ between MES community workshops, the MES Society organizes dedicated sessions at conferences hosted by existing research communities that are closely related to Macro-Energy Systems research. This year’s community meeting is planned to occur at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) 2025 Annual Meeting, which is scheduled for December 15-19 in New Orleans.

The AGU Fall Meeting is the largest Earth and space science conference in the world, bringing together more than 25,000 attendees across disciplines, sectors, and regions. In recent years, the role of energy systems in addressing global environmental challenges has gained significant visibility at AGU, reflecting the urgency and interdisciplinary nature of this work.

In recognition of this momentum, the Macro-Energy Systems (MES) Society will host a community meeting during the 2025 AGU Annual Meeting. The central part of this gathering will take place within a dedicated MES session that is part of AGU’s main scientific program. We encourage members interested in participating to submit an abstract through AGU’s regular process. Please note that AGU requires all presenters to be current AGU members at the time of abstract submission.

Abstract submission is now open and will close on Wednesday, July 30.

We especially encourage submissions that explore:

  • Energy system transitions in response to global environmental challenges

  • Interactions between MES and the Earth system

  • Societal implications of MES research

  • Interdisciplinary approaches that inform actionable research and policy
