Learn More About Macro-Energy Systems
Macro-Energy Systems is an emergent field and research community that focuses on large-scale, systems-level, long-term aspects of energy systems and their implications for other systems, including the environment, economy, and human wellbeing. The research field brings together a scholarly community focused on common questions about the design, operation, and implications of very large-scale energy systems. The vision for this field was laid out in a now-open access paper published in Joule.
Driven by concerns around sustainability and equity, and enabled by advances in computational tools, Macro-Energy Systems has grown into a vibrant and rapidly evolving area of study. Historically, related work was dispersed across many disciplines; this field now unites those efforts to foster more effective research, collaboration, education, and policy-making.
